GCPA's Private Online High School Curriculum
Grand Canyon Private Academy (GCPA) knows success is not a single destination, and that the journey can often take many turns. No matter the path, we believe in unlocking every learner's potential by meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.
Explore Our Courses for High School
As students move through middle school and into high school, their work becomes increasingly independent. The K12 online high school curriculum is designed for students targeting a four-year university, a local community college, or an immediate career.
In all course levels, students:
- Learn grade-level content
- Complete coursework that might require writing or research projects
- Tackle problems that require analytical thinking
- Participate in seminar-based instruction with a collaborative and discussion-focused approach
In AP® courses, students prepare to take the AP® exam in a particular subject. Their AP® exam score may allow them to receive college credit, as determined by their college of choice.
A full list of high school courses will be available soon.
Socratic Seminar Teaching Method
We structure our high school classrooms around a seminar-based approach, where instruction is collaborative and discussion-focused. Teachers guide students through interactions by providing an introduction and setting the terms of the discussion, which may be a question or a task. This drives learning and shapes how the students think, ask questions, and respond.
With this method of teaching, learning happens for our students through discussion rather than lecture. This strategy for learning helps students:
- Develop higher cognitive abilities
- Develop the ability to respond
- Develop the ability to seek clarification and defend the ideas of others
- Develop the ability of keen observation of experience and feelings and how to present them effectively
Teachers may prompt students to share their ideas, but encourage the space for students to notice, wonder, talk, or debate. This seminar method helps students find their voices.
Preparation for College and Beyond
GCPA sets students up for success with an innovative and interactive online environment that provides space for independent learning and teacher support when needed. Students can choose from credit recovery, honors, AP® online courses, and dual enrollment options. In addition to required courses, students can choose from a wide variety of general and career-focused electives.
Dual Enrollment: Experience College While Still in High School
One unique aspect of our online high school curriculum is our dual enrollment* opportunities. Qualified high school students at GCPA will have access to take real college courses with the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree while they’re still in high school.
This academic college opportunity supports GCPA's belief that all children should have access to a quality education that includes college and career.
